Charlotte Brady was born in Sweden in 1965. She grew up in a small town and early on felt the call for freedom. Too young and inexperienced to understand what that meant, she started searching. Poetry initially satisfied her craving for a deeper understanding of life. In 1990 she began practicing yoga.
Her first book of poems, Och den fula ängelen föll, was published in 1997. That same year, she left Sweden for New York with her fiancé. She continued writing, in both Swedish and English. She worked as an editor for the literary magazine Mudfish where she also published photography and short stories in English. During this time, her yoga and meditation practice deepened. In 2000, her second book of poems, Villfarelser, was published. By then Charlotte was married and had two children. In 2004, the family moved to Jamaica. Brady continued to write in both languages and published short stories in The Jamaica Observer and The Gleaner. In 2006, her first novel, Detaljernas tämjare, was published. In Jamaica she also started teaching yoga classes from her house. In her continuing search for freedom, Charlotte came to a point where she felt words were unimportant. In 2008, she stopped writing. She intensified her spiritual practice and went deeper into silence. It wasn’t until 2012 that she picked up the pen again—in the form of a blog with a spiritual theme. By that time, the family lived in Barbados where Charlotte’s spiritual experiences had become deeper and more pronounced. It was also at this time that she started to write poetry again (now exclusively in English, a poetry beyond words as pure expression of heart, a reflection of a deep spiritual integration. Charlotte had by then left the endless quest for more, better, different to just be who she eternally is, always has been and always will be. Also in 2012, on a whim, Brady and her family moved to Miami. Poems continued to come in at a steady flow. Sometimes there were ten poems in a day and sometimes ten weeks in one poem. Eventually, they found a home with Anterior Books and editor Rosemi Mederos. When she is not writing, Charlotte blends essential oils, creating fragrances that make you happy just by smelling them. She enjoys cooking, spending time in her garden, and walking her dog. She has stopped her meditation practice because now every second is a meditation filled with the most wondrous sense of gratitude and freedom. Charlotte can’t think of a better way to spend her remaining time on Earth than by contributing to beauty, love, and freedom through poetry and pure beingness. She lives with her husband, two children, and dog, Biscuit, in Miami and will stay there until life takes her elsewhere. |
