Selfishness, over-indulgence and egotism aren’t Self-love. They are a form of Self-hate. They are compensations for love lost, symptoms of too little Self-love.
Without any bit of true Self-love nothing is possible. We wouldn’t be able to love a single person, animal or event. We wouldn’t even be able to live. Love is life. Life is love. This is why Self-love is so important. Complete absence of Self-love is death.
As children it’s our parents’ job to love us and instill enough Self-love to make sure we live and thrive. As adults we take over from our parents and do the job ourselves. Through us love continues to flow to a new generation and into the world. This is of course a dream scenario. Many people feel deprived of parental love. But the good news is that you can still give it to yourself!
You are the source of love!
Really.
You can’t help but love others when you love yourself. This is because we are all one. We all share this life. We also share the love. Love is endless and limitless. By cutting off Self-love you cut off the flow to others as well as to yourself.
Imagine what we could do as a species if every single one of us could let love flow through us! Imagine that it’s possible! What a world it would be!
Why wouldn’t you allow love to flow in you?
Why wouldn’t you allow love to flow through you and reach others?
You’ll enrich life, your own and others’.
Don’t cut off the flow!
Here’s what efficiently cuts off the flow: fear, anger, doubt, guilt.
If you experience any of those feelings in any area of your life you know that’s where lots of love is needed. Lots of Self-love. Even if it’s another person who inspires those feelings in you, it is through Self-love that you can change your reality.
If you don’t believe me, try this:
As an experiment, try not to take the person/situation seriously. Treat it like it was a ghost or a faint memory of something unpleasant but unimportant.
Just focus on you and your feelings. Then shift to love. Or to any feeling you want to feel instead.
It doesn’t matter what it is that you love about yourself. It can be completely unrelated to your problem area. Just love and appreciate. If you fall back into fear/anger/doubt/guilt – shift back to love or other pleasant feeling. Do it again and again until love becomes a habit with you. Never give up.
(I guarantee that it works – but remember that many of us have been trained to neglect ourselves. It may take some time and patience to retrain.)
The reward is rich.
But don’t do it to get something or achieve something. Do it for love’s sake. Because love is so yummy and good to everyone. Because you can always trust love. Because love spreads easier than hate.
It really does.
To be hateful or resentful you need to calculate and decide why this or that is bad and despicable to you. You need to spend a lot of time thinking about it. But once you shift to love there is no need to think, calculate or remember bad things to keep hate alive.
Love is our natural state. Take away fear, anger worry, guilt, boredom etc, etc, and see what’s left. I promise you that you’ll arrive at love.
It’s so beautiful and simple.
